Abstract

Setting X cursor themes. I referred ArchWiki's article[1].

Get themes

For example, there are following sites which have cursor themes:

Configuration

Create a directory ~/.icons if it does not exist, and extract a cursor theme under ~/.icons.

makedir ~/.icons
tar zxvf foobar-cursor-theme.tar.gz -C ~/.icons

Check if the directory structure is ~/.icons/<theme-name>/cursors/.

For user specific configuration, create ~/.icons/default/index.theme as following code:

[icon theme]
Inherits=<theme-name>

Alternatively, create a link ~/.icons/default to theme directory:

ln -s /usr/share/icons/theme-name/ ~/.icons/default

For system-wide configuration, edit /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme. But note that /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme could be overwritten when updating libxcursor.
